Your guest room should provide a welcoming and comfortable space for visitors, but it doesn’t have to break your bank. Do-it-yourself pillows and sheet covers are just a few ideas that can transform your room. Making your own accessories is a great place to start.
- Custom Photographs
The flower picture found in this photograph blends in with the room nicely. It adds style and keeps the room from looking too plain. The small tree photograph on the small stand adds a bit of color to the room, and it doesn’t repeat the black and white colors.
Adding a few potted plants to your guest room will provide many benefits. Plants will take the carbon dioxide out of the room and replace it with pure oxygen. However, it’s important to avoid going overboard when adding new plants. A few small ones placed near the bed is a good place to start. Adding a floor plant will add more oxygen to the room, but you probably shouldn’t add more than this.
- Thrift Store Shopping
Going to a thrift store to get a mirror or bed sheets is a good idea. If you find a mirror that isn’t the right color, you can always sand it off and paint it to your liking. Desk lamps can also be purchased at a store like this. They can be spray painted to match the rest of your room. The red and white color clash in this photo is a wonderful representation of what can be done.
- Optical Illusions
An easy way to make your guest room appear larger is to put your bed against the largest wall. If you put the bed alongside a shorter wall, it will start to clutter the space up. While the bed is positioned along the longest wall, you can start to add things like plants and stools around the room. Install a large stand on the far-side of the bed to keep the room organized. If the stand was installed to the right of the bed, like in the photo below, there wouldn’t be a spot for the desk lamp to go.
- Use Vintage Suede Fabric to Renew the Furniture
If you found an ottoman or chair that you really like, but it isn’t the right color, there is no need to throw it out. Purchase some suede fabric at your local craft store and staple it to your furniture with a staple gun. It’s incredibly easy to do and it’s much easier than buying a new piece.
Via my home ideas
Your guest room can appear as if a ton of money went into it when you make your own furniture and accessories. Keep it simple and avoid saturating the room with too many personalized items and clutter. You want your guests to feel as comfortable as they do in their own home so creating a neutral and clean space will result in the happiest guests. Mi casa es su casa!
